Consumer Reports® last report on Vinyl Siding picked the top twenty-seven models of vinyl siding based on resistance to color change, impact, wind, and also rigidity. All of the fourteen national vinyl siding manufacturers had at least one model that made the list.

The manufacturers along with the number of their models making the list are below:

Alcoa (three)
Alside (two)
Ashland-Davis (two)
Certainteed (three)
Crane (one)
Georgia-Pacific (one)
Heartland (two)
Louisiana Pacific (two)
Mastic (one)
Napco (one)
Norandex (three)
Variform (one)
Royal (three)
Wolverine (two)

The siding models ranged in thickness from .040" (40 mills i.e. thousandths of an inch) in thickness up to .046" (46 mills). Other models which did not make the list can range from .035, the minimum thickness allowed, up to .052.

But, Consumer Reports® found that some thinner siding performed as well as or better than the thicker siding with regard to color change, impact resistance, wind resistance, and even rigidity.

This is why Factory Direct Remodeling believes in constantly researching the marketplace, evaluating our customers' unique situations, and recommending the best model, manufacturer, color, and design that works for you.

Unfortunately, the Consumer Reports® ratings on siding were last published in 2003. Since then, two significant advancements have come along which were not evaluated in that report.

With so many options, Factory Direct Remodeling believes that you deserve to explore all of your options before making such an important decision as siding your home.
